Capn Jimbo's Rum Project

Plantation is a company to be taken seriously. Still, we are of the school of Donn the Beachcomber and Trader Vic Bergeron, the acknowledged masters of mixing rums. Both of these spirits geniuses felt that the best, most aged and finest sipping rums were also the best mixing rums.

Companies that promote "premium mixers" are taking leave with their credibility, as no matter how you cut it, a younger, cheaper rum - however modified with a few splashes of good aged rum, still remain relatively simple, less complex, and of lesser value for mixing.

The term "mixing rum" is synonymous with cheap rum, which must be covered up to be palatable and is designed to sell cheap for those who don't know better. "Premium mixing rum" is actually a contradiction in terms, despite the marginal improvements Plantation hopes to market to you as "premium".

The only thing that is truly premium in cases like these, are marketing driven profits.

Drink Spirits

The Plantation 3 Stars rum is good, but I am more a fan of their Barbados 5 year rum. Here's our review of the 3 Stars: http://www.drinkspirits.com/rum/plantation-3-stars-white-rum-review/
